Cosmic American presents...ERIC BRACE and LAST TRAIN HOME
Thursday 8th July 7.30pm / £10adv
"One of the country's most formidable roots-rock bands." - That's the assessment of Nashville's Tennessean newspaper about Last Train Home. And while roots-rock is at the heart of LTH's sound, don't overlook the country, bluegrass, swing, blues, folk, pop, and Tin Pan Alley influences you'll find if you lend this band an ear. What began as a part-time band in Washington D.C. back in 1997 has evolved into an acclaimed full-time touring group based out of Nashville.
TH frontman Eric Brace is a former staff writer for The Washington Post It was in late 1996 that Eric began pulling together a band to record some of his songs. Those recordings became the band's eponymous debut, "Last Train Home," released in 1997. In 1999, the band returned with the deeper and richer release, "True North." With rave reviews coming in on a regular basis, the band started touring the east coast more widely, and took a couple of trips to Nashville to play its music.

Funhouse Comedy presents...ANDREW LAWRENCE + PAUL SINHA
Wednesday 14th July 7.30pm / £7adv
Edinburgh Festival preview show

ANDREW LAWRENCE - "With the fractious energy born of frustration that puts one in mind of an evil Lee Evans merging with the verbal assaults of 'equal opportunities offender' Jerry Sadowitz, this taut, scrawny ginger comic, with his strangulated London twang, fires his ire any which way" - The Independent, August 2009
"Andrew Lawrence spews hypnotically articulate misanthropy that is very funny indeed, if aboslutely not for the easily shockable" - The Telegraph, August 2009

PAUL SINHA - Sinha began performing stand-up while working as a junior doctor in hospitals in London and King's Lynn. His early material drew on his sexuality and ethnicity with a high pun concentration. In 1999, he reached the final of the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year where he was runner-up. After several years of combining touring with his nascent medical career, Sinha's breakthrough came with his second solo Edinburgh show, Saint or Sinha? which earned him an if.comeddie nomination in 2006.[3]

Cosmic American presents...ELIZABETH COOK DUO + OTIS GIBBS
Sunday 18th July 7.30pm / £11adv

ELIZABETH COOK - To say that Elizabeth Cook's background is like something out of a country song would be wildly underestimating the entire genre. The youngest of 11 half-brothers and sisters, she grew up in rural Florida where her musician parents met while playing in local country bars.
In contemporary country music, it's a rare performer who will dare to take on the industry on her own hogs-and-kisses terms. But for the artist whom Nanci Griffith has called "this generation's Loretta Lynn," it takes a certain tenacity to meld smart attitude with classic tradition, the credibility of a life lived with genuine hillbilly passion, and the integrity to write an acclaimed cache of uncommonly cool songs

OTIS GIBBS - Otis Gibbs is a man in search of an honest experience. Some people refer to him as a folk artist, but that is a simplistic way to describe a man who has planted over 7,000 trees, slept in hobo jungles, walked with nomadic shepherds in the Carpathian Mountains, been strip-searched by dirty cops in Detroit, and has an FBI file.
Otis has spent the last fifteen years traveling across America and abroad documenting this world, and has a story to share about each stop along the way.

The Maze presents...THE APPLES w/ Royal Gala!

Wednesday 28th July 8pm / £10

THE APPLES - The 9 piece Israeli comtemporary funk blast masters are back at The Maze once more!

Over the past seven years the nine-strong instrumental group has been folding cuts and scratches from every imaginable source into Big Band blares and Middle Eastern elements on top of a raw and dirty funk base, baking a thick multi-layered sonic treat. Keeping true to their origins as a spontaneous composition ensemble, they kick ideas up and down the stage in a torrent of Decks, Horns, Double Bass, Drums and Electronic Effects.

No digital samplers, no guitars or keyboards and no safety net as the arrangements are reinvented on the spot and the roles of solo and backing instruments change at the blink of an eye to any of the nine members.

PLUS SUPPORT FROM A AMAZING BAND IN THEIR OWN RIGHT....ROYAL GALA!!!

ROYAL GALA - 9 piece latin funk, breakbeat, dub, dance, ska, waltz, stomping machine that has not only taken Nottingham by storm in the last 5 years but also played Shambala, Beatherder and many other top festivals and shows....and rammed the Maze out themselves several times!
