The Fox and Crown has celebrated 12 years as Newark’s finest with a come-as-you-please party for regulars, locals and lots of former staff. Two of the beers were available all night at a recession busting £1.55 – the price they were on the day Newark, Nottingham, Leicester and England rugby player, Dusty Hare, officially opened the pub in September 1997. On that day, it became the first new pub anywhere to stock ales from Castle Rock Brewery which had brewed its first real ale only a few days before.

Leading the 2009 party guest list was pub regular, Alan Davis, who celebrated his 69th birthday on the same day. He is pictured centre with his daughter, Nick Cooper.

Manager Simon Eldrige (far left, in the gangster outfit), and assorted fairies, native Americans, hoodlums, a Pocahontas and a Cleopatra were among the hundreds to toast the pub’s next healthy dozen.
