Judging by members of the branch followed the proscribed procedure with quality, atmosphere, style and décor, service and welcome, community focus, sympathy with the aims of CAMRA and value for money, all playing a part in the decision making process.
Landlord James Halfpenny puts his success down firmly to his staff and the quality of the ales on offer. “Though we always have a wide and changing range of Castle Rock beers, we remain committed to introducing new and LocAle breweries.
“But the real difference between award winners and the also-rans is the welcome at the bar,” he says.
Colin Wilde, managing director at Castle Rock Brewery says: “The Poppy is no stranger to awards and I am delighted that once again James has led his team to a top three finish as recognised by CAMRA – the best consumer group in the region.”
CAMRA’s pub of the year is the Robin Hood and Little John in Arnold, with the White Lion in Kimberley coming second.
