BREAD AND BITTER
'Opened on 5th December 2007'

The Bread and Bitter was officially opened by Barrie Judge. Nineteen years ago, Mr Judge shut his bakery on the site and the premises had lain idle since. Now completely rebuilt as a pub, Castle Rock has restored the original bread ovens which have ‘mother’s’ pride of place in the dining room.

Twelve real ales are permanently on draught alongside a range of continental and UK favourites including Oyster Stout, Staropramen and Grolsch Weiss. One area of the pub is dedicated to a “brewers’ graveyard” of artefacts from closed breweries including some sadly missed friends. A feature of the new pub is its stained glass.

Children are welcome at the Bread and Bitter providing they are well behaved and supervised at all times. They are allowed in the Garden Room (Conservatory), Ovens Room (Dinning Area) or Outside until 9.00pm Only!

A baby changing facility is located in the Ladies toilets and high-chairs can be found in the garden room, please clean them after use.
We are happy to facilitate the dietary requirements of your child and reduce portions sizes for children. ‘

Parking is an eternal problem at the Bread and Bitter. We have very limited space in our shared car-park & immediately outside the building. There is plenty of on-street parking and car parks within a few minutes walk but please do not park illegally. Unfortunately, due to the selfishness of a few individuals, we have had unnecessary confrontations with our long-suffering neighbours. Please park sensibly and with due care & consideration. Do not obstruct driveways or the entrance to our car-park!
Better still, leave the car at home and catch bus (NCT 44,45,25 or 199), Taxi or walk!
