Bloomin’ gorgeous NBT
The New Barrack Tavern has Sheffield’s best pub garden – official. In a tightly fought contest for the 2010 Sheffield in Bloom crown, the New Barrack Tavern beat off rivals across the city to be selected outright winner in the pub, café and restaurant category – one of nine covering businesses, community groups, churches, schools and individual entries. In the nine years of the contest, the New Barrack Tavern has entered on four occasions and has regularly come away with a silver or bronze award.
Impact, originality, maintenance and personal involvement were the criteria the judges, including the Lord Mayor of Sheffield Cllr Alan Law JP, were looking for. For the Tavern, they highlighted the improvements made since last year, the good use of the space including down the side of the pub, and the enthusiasm of the landlord and landlady.

The Lord Mayor says, “The New Barrack Tavern’s beer garden is a wonderful contribution to this year’s Sheffield In Bloom and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for entering. Sheffield truly is beautiful at this time of year and it is great to see how hard people work to keep the flowers blooming.”
Pub tenants, Steph and Kev Woods, joined other Sheffield in Bloom contributors at an official reception at the Council House. Later, the Lord Mayor made a personal journey back to the pub to present their winning plaque.
