Castle Rock’s Black Gold, the brewery’s well balanced dark mild beer, has won first place in its category at the 2009 SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) regional beer competition held during the Nottingham CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Robin Hood Beer Festival. Screech Owl, the latest edition to Castle Rock’s range, came second in the strong bitter category.
The judging event, on the historic Nottingham Castle Green, took place on Thursday 8 October.
The presentations were made by the Sheriff of Nottingham accompanied by his one time foes Robin Hood and Maid Marian. The Sheriff, a Nottingham city councillor by day, said here again was proof that real ale ‘makes friends’.
