Historic pub with strong railway connections due to its proximity to the railway station. The Alexandra Hotel was a former Shipstone’s pub, the birthplace of the Derby branch of CAMRA (1974).

Justifiably renowned for its wide range of beers – making a point of showcasing Castle Rock’s seasonal beers alongside resident Harvest Pale, the other 3-5 beers are usually sourced from micro breweries around the country. For the lovers of dark beers there’s normally two, and for drinkers who’d prefer something stronger it’s unusual not to have something on at 5%+.

The ‘Alex’ has won many awards including being named CAMRA East Midlands Pub of the Year during its first time under the Castle Rock banner.

The pub is indeed a ‘Hotel’, with four en-suite rooms available.

Accommodation:
Our four letting rooms are all en-suite (showers only) and available from £30 / night B&B. All rooms are equipped with a TV and Tea and Coffee making facilities. A night entrance and key is also available for residents so you can come and go as you please during your stay.

The pub’s freshly refurbished lounge is also available for private hire and has a capacity of 30-40. Whilst it’s free to hire you’re expected to buy some beer during your time there!

Food is available all day every day in the form of ‘made to order’ cobs and fresh local pork and huntsman pies.
