The Idea was Simple
When Chris Holmes opened the Old King’s Arms in Newark, it was an act of defiance against an industry dominated by monopolistic brewers. It was niche, believe it or not, to focus on real ale in homely surroundings.
The brewery opened twenty years later and, in 2010, we were catapulted into the spotlight when Harvest Pale was crowned Supreme Champion Beer of Britain. We now have over twenty pubs in the Castle Rock extended family, brew a huge variety of skilfully crafted beers, and work hard to have a positive impact on the world around us.
Running great pubs and brewing great beer is still our humble life’s mission.
Castle Rock beers are brewed in Nottingham on our 65HL brewery, with a 160L pilot brewing kit for trials and experiments.
We source our malts and hops from a selection of trusted, quality suppliers, and many Castle Rock beers are fermented with our meticulously managed in-house wet yeast culture, which gives our beers their distinct edge.
The Castle Rock family is made up of an eclectic mix of venues across the East Midlands, including city-centre craft beer bars, traditional country pubs, and community-led pubs in the leafy suburbs. Each Castle Rock pub is as unique as the next.
We don’t believe in a “one size” approach to our pubs. We tailor everything we do the needs and wants of the community that each pub serves, while always upholding the values that matter most to us.
‘Griff’- Celebrating Graham Griffiths and the Masters Hockey World Cup!
Castle Rock has long enjoyed paying tribute to local and regional legends by brewing a beer in their name. Griff follows a long line of local luminaries including Bendigo, Harry Wheatcroft and Alan Sillitoe. With the Masters Hockey World Cup around the corner, the timing was perfect to honour Nottingham hero, Graham Griffiths.

Cabazon – our collab with Neon Raptor
Cabazon is a Castle Rock x Neon Raptor West Coast pale with bold assertive flavours. In balance, there's a sweet backdrop of robust flavours from the Golden Promise and Vienna malts. With the bitterness you'd expect from a West Coast pale, Cabazon also packs subtle notes of gooseberry, grapefruit and pine, with a sweet biscuity finish.
