A Quiz Night and Guidebook Launch, raising money for Friends of the Hook and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust

To celebrate the launch of 100 Walks from the Poppy and Pint, we’re holding a classic pub quiz night with special guests, Trevor and Jenny, Friends of the Hook and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.

Kicking off at 7:30pm, the evening will include:

• Introductions from our special guests
• A quiz with a round from Castle Rock Brewery, Trevor and Jenny and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust
• A chance to win prizes for your table, including a signed copy of the guidebook, £25 Castle Rock gift voucher, Castle Rock Brewery merch and Beer Gin & more
• A wildlife gallery featuring artwork to buy from West Bridgford-based artist Jeanette Ward, with 20% of sales profits from the gallery to be donated to Nottingham Wildlife Trust. Jeanette will also present £100 to Notts Wildlife Trust from her Poppy and Pint wildlife exhibition.
• A raffle to win a signed framed print from Jeanette Ward called “Best Pals”; they are Bestie Beasties off to their local Castle Rock pub in the Wild Wood! All proceeds will be donated to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust

100 Walks from the Poppy and Pint

Priced at £8, every sale of the book supports Friends of the Hook, dedicated to preserving Lady Bay’s local nature reserve. 

100 Walks from the Poppy and Pint became popular with locals during the pandemic when it released walk after walk in four volumes over a period of two years. The total number of walks eventually totalled 150! The best 100 of these walks has now been assembled into this new paperback version, making it easier for people to see and use.

‘A ridiculous number of walks from a single place – which just proves that our local countryside can be opened up and enjoyed by all’.

This guidebook describes one hundred walks from the doorstep of the Poppy and Pint, in Lady Bay or nearabout. It is the most comprehensive volume of walks in the area. Possibly the highest number of walks described from a single place in the entire country – if not the world – if not the entire universe!

The book is written by Jenny McGavin and Trevor Riddiough, both qualified mountain leaders and prolific walkers who live in Lady Bay. Each walk comes with a handy reference guide and map.

The book costs £8, with all the proceeds of the sale going to The Friends of the Hook who look after Lady Bay’s local nature reserve. Now available from the Poppy and Pint.
