Oatmeal Stout is now pouring in our pubs and beyond in keg, can and for the first time, in cask. Our developmental brewer Matt shares his notes on the beer below.
After a great response to this beer when it was first brewed in keg and can last year (including a Gold medal at the SIBA Midlands Awards), we have decided to brew a cask version.
Served at a slightly higher temperature and with a lower level of carbonation, this version really allows you to appreciate the rich flavours of all the kilned malts. The beer is packed with oats, providing a satisfyingly rounded and full mouthfeel. We’ve used UK hop variety Phoenix to bring subtle aromas of marmalade, spice and dried fruit that work well with all those deep coffee, caramel and chocolate flavours from the grain bill.
To ferment this beer we have used London Ale iii yeast strain, which lends a real smoothness to more traditional, darker beer styles.
Available in Cask (perfect for drinking by the fireside or next best cosy spot inside your favourite pub).
