Draught Session is now certified gluten free

From today, our much-loved core beer, Session will be certified gluten free in keg and cask!*

*Please note: cans are coming soon! However, our current stock of Session cans are not gluten free. This is clearly stated on every can, but we promise our next batch out will be proudly gluten free!

‘Officially’ hitting bars from Thursday 19th January, draught Session has been certified gluten free for a number of months now, but we have kept the news quiet, wanting to give our customers a chance to provide feedback.

The recipe remains unchanged, apart from the addition of an enzyme called Brewer’s Clarex. The enzyme essentially works by breaking down gluten molecules, reducing the levels present in the beer to less than 20 parts per million. Each batch of this beer is tested at an external laboratory via industry-standard testing procedures, and contains 20ppm or less of gluten (in fact all batches so far have tested to contain less than 10ppm). The beer can therefore legally be labelled as gluten free. Hurrah!

It is worth noting that the beer is still made with grains that contain gluten – in this case malted barley, wheat and oats – but in this beer the gluten is removed. We hope that, armed with this information, individual customers will be able to make an informed decision as to whether the product is right for them, based on their own gluten sensitivity.

We’re celebrating with a weekend-long GF Extravaganza Weekend at the Poppy and Pint!

To celebrate, the Poppy and Pint is hosting a full weekend dedicated to gluten free offerings including made-to-order food specials, street food and a gluten free tap takeover.

From Friday 20th January, the pub will be holding a ‘Battle of the Gluten Free Breweries’ – with at least eight gluten free beers gracing the taps from Shiny Brewery and Triple Point Brewery. Alongside the gluten free takeover on the bar, the kitchen will also be boasting a number of gluten free dishes, including a specially curated menu of main meals, scrumptious street food and sides, and tasty treats.

Everyone is welcome all weekend long; whether you are a beer-lover, gluten intolerant or simply looking for an excuse to visit the pub!
