Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day this year with a beer, a brew day, and fundraising for Nottingham Women’s Centre. RSVP here – limited places available.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are once again opening our brewery doors to women and inviting them to join us in brewing our #IWD24 beer!
This year, we are collaborating with local women’s beer group No Half Measures to create ‘Order and Disorder’, a session pale ale. Alongside the opportunity to help us make the beer, attendees will also have the chance to help us create the pump clip, learn more about beer and brewing, take part in a tutored tasting, and more! Read on for the full details…
WHEN: Wednesday 7th February, from 7am. We expect to finish up for lunch around 1pm.
WHERE: The Old Cold Store, next to the Vat and Fiddle and Castle Rock Brewery.
WHO: This event is for women with an interest in beer and/or brewing. No prior knowledge or experience is required. Strictly 18+.
HOW MUCH? The event is free. Breakfast will be provided and attendees will be able to purchase discounted food from the Vat and Fiddle’s new menu for lunch.

Yes, beers.
We’ll be brewing ‘Order + Disorder’ on our kit in the main brewery which will be available in our pubs and beyond. But we’ll also be brewing Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 on the Pilot Project simultaneously (our small brewing kit). The plan is to use the same malt base throughout all beers, but to switch up the hops and yeast in the others.
We’re launching the beers on International Women’s Day with live music to celebrate. We’ll also be hosting a pre-launch event in the Vat and Fiddle’s Visitor Centre for a more intimate tasting of each of the beers, including a talk on the process and ingredients. Full details and the chance to RSVP will be announced soon!
Save the date: we’re launching the beer on International Women’s Day. We’ll be back in the Old Cold Store celebrating with live music from Midnight Rodeo and more TBA!
WHEN: Friday 8th March, doors from 7:30pm.
WHERE: The Old Cold Store, next to the Vat and Fiddle and Castle Rock Brewery.
WHO: Everyone – the more the merrier! Come and help us celebrate IWD24 and raise money for Nottingham Women’s Centre.
HOW MUCH? The event is free with the option to donate to Nottingham Women’s Centre if you can. Donations of £5+ give you the chance to win a limited edition ‘Order + Disorder’ screen print.
In the summer of 2022 a few women gathered in a quirky little micropub called the Barrel Drop. While enjoying a beer or two they pondered on whether there was a group in existence for women in Nottingham to meet up and appreciate beer together. There wasn’t.
And so, then there was. From humble beginnings as an informal collective of women beer lovers, the group slowly established itself, using WhatsApp to organise meet ups and grow organically through word of mouth and a mutual love for all things beer.
Fast forward a few months and the group brewed their first beer in collaboration with Liquid Light for International Women’s Day 2023. Around that time, Castle Rock Brewery was hosting its second IWD open brew day, to create ‘Crystal Clear’ in collaboration with Brewster’s Brewery. And it was there we were first introduced to the group, which recruited a few more members at the same time! We’ve bumped into them countless times since, in the pub or at other events; from tasting events and beer launches in our pubs, to the Hop Idol judging in the Old Cold Store.
Needless to say here at Castle Rock we are very grateful for all the support we’ve received from the group (however inadvertently, as they go around sampling great beer!) and over the moon that it exists. Here in Nottingham we are very lucky to be surrounded by great pubs and a thriving beer scene; even more so because a few women identified a gap within it and took it upon themselves to fill it.
This beer is a nod to the group. A thank you for existing, and for providing a safe and welcoming space for women to come together and enjoy beer. It’s also an acknowledgement of your support to the Nottingham beer and brewing scene – cheers!
Long story short, it made perfect sense to us to celebrate International Women’s Day by celebrating this fantastic group.
And we are honoured they’re up for it.
