Back in November 2024, news broke that our much-loved Nottingham city-centre brewery site had been sold. With our lease running until March 2027, we had plenty of time to explore our options, and quietly got to work on the search. We always saw the change as an opportunity to find the right next home for Castle Rock, even though there wasn’t much more we could say at the time.
Almost two years later, we’re delighted to share we’ve found our new home. And we’re well underway with making real, exciting plans for Castle Rock’s next chapter.
We have secured planning permission to relocate to a site rich in brewing history, the former home of Murphy & Son in Old Basford. This building was originally constructed in 1891 for the Prince of Wales Brewery and was a working brewery up until the early 20th century. We are so excited to not only continue our journey as a brewery at this historic site, but also to return the site to its original purpose over a century later.
As mentioned in our previous update, for the Vat and Fiddle pub it’s business as usual. We remain optimistic about retaining the Old Cold Store and back garden, and for now, both spaces are secured under the current lease until March 2027. Of course, we’ll share more details as our plans take shape.
This exciting news has come just before we begin to embark upon our 50th year as a pub group and 30th year as a brewery, and we are busy preparing to make 2027 Castle Rock’s best year yet! To celebrate these milestones, we’re putting together several opportunities for our loyal supporters, new and old, to join us in celebrating the next 50 years. These plans include hosting events in our pubs, special beers, and much more. Watch this space.
Our core mission has and will always be to bring people together, through brewing great beer and creating safe and welcoming spaces. Behind the pubs, beers, and events, Castle Rock is made of the people that continue to choose us – as their place of work or their home away from home. What better way to celebrate this major anniversary than to shine a spotlight on the people who have stuck by us all along by launching our #RememberWhen campaign.
We all have our favourite memories of a Castle Rock pub, whether they’re full of laughter, tears, or both, they all started with a pint. Across 2027, we want to fill our pubs, socials, and website with stories of what Castle Rock means to you. We’d also love to include our favourite stories in the upcoming editions of The Castle Rock Quarter, which will be available to read from January.
Find out more about our #RememberWhen campaign and submit your story here!
Make sure to follow us on socials for more news on our upcoming plans.
We can’t wait to take you with us for the next 50 years!
