Today, we had the honour of presenting Friends Of The Hook with £2,000, raised through sales of 100 Walks From The Poppy and Pint guidebook, written by Trevor Riddiough and Jenny McGavin.
Back in 2020, Trevor shared a few local walks from the Poppy and Pint pub with us. His lockdown hobby quickly gained popularity, and soon we had over 100 walks on our website! These walks eventually became the 100 Walks Guidebook, which sold out quickly, raising money for FROTH (Friends of The Hook) along the way.
Back in July, we supported the launch of the guidebook at a quiz night and fundraising event. Of course, we held it at the Poppy and Pint. The evening included a quiz featuring rounds from Castle Rock Brewery, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, Trevor and Friends of the Hook. There was also a magnificent raffle full of amazing prizes such as Yard Party tickets, Glastonbudget tickets and a limited-edition signed print from artist Jeanette Ward. It was an amazing night and the perfect event to celebrate Trevor and Jenny’s hard work!
We are so chuffed to have been able to print another run of the guidebook, now exclusively available at the Poppy and Pint. And just in time for Christmas, too!
Created by Trevor Riddiough and Jenny McGavin, this guidebook covers 100 walks beginning at the Poppy and Pint in Lady Bay, Nottinghamshire. Of course, we recommend ending up there, too! The walks span east and west along the Trent Valley, as well as north to Colwick and beyond, and south around the Wolds of Nottinghamshire, making it the most comprehensive collection of walks in the area – if not the world – if not the entire universe!
£8 from every purchase of the guidebook goes to Friends of The Hook, a nature reserve on the Trent in Nottingham.
