Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day this year with a brand-new beer and brew day fundraising for Nottingham Women’s Centre!
ABOUT THE OPEN BREW DAY
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are once again opening our brewery doors to the wonderful women of Nottingham and inviting them to join us in brewing our #IWD26 beer!
This year, we are excited to announce that we are collaborating with our friends at Burton Bridge Brewery to create our brand-new International Women’s Day brew! Alongside the opportunity to help us make the beer, attendees will also have the chance to learn more about beer and the brewing process, take part in tutored tastings and more! WHEN: Tuesday 3rd February, from 7:30am.
WHERE: The Old Cold Store, next to the Vat and Fiddle and Castle Rock Brewery.
WHO: This event is for self-identifying women with an interest in beer or brewing. No prior knowledge or experience is required. Strictly 18+.
HOW MUCH: The event is free. Breakfast will be provided and attendees will be able to purchase a lunch box made by the talented Vat and Fiddle chefs!
Please note, spaces are limited and fill up quickly so book your place now to avoid disappointment.
SCHEDULE: 7:30am start – 3pm finish. Also on the agenda:
- Six different opportunities to join our brewers in the main brewery, to take part in various parts of the brewing process. First-come-first-served, sign up on the day.
- Opportunity to take part in guided brewery tours running throughout the brew day.
- Learn more about the beer’s key ingredients from water, malt, hops and yeast.
- Tutored tastings.
- And more!

FAQs & FURTHER INFORMATION
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- To bring your own protective footwear! Wellies are fine, ideally steel capped. Shoes should be waterproof.
- To dress appropriately. Please dress to keep warm! Don’t wear anything you wouldn’t want to get beer/ingredients on, and please remove all jewellery before entering the brewery.
ABOUT THE DAY:
- Doors open from 7:30am! Yep, it’s an early start! But we have SIX different opportunities to help out in the brewery throughout the day. Please note, we will be mashing in at 7:45am prompt. If you want to be in this group, please ensure you arrive for 7:30am.
- For health and safety reasons, only six people at a time can participate in each given process – sign ups will be taken on a first-come-first-served basis, so the earlier you get in, the better! (Especially if you know which stage of the brewing process you want to help with!)
- We will have a number of activities, including talks and beer tastings, going on in the Old Cold Store running parallel to the brew day.
- Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, and all attendees will have the option to purchase a lunch box containing a cob of their choice, crisps, sausage roll and a drink.
Opportunities for participation in the brew day include:
- Mashing in
- Hopback set up, readings and wort sampling
- Tipping malt for our next brew
- Digging out the mash tun
- Hop additions
- Participation in the laboratory
Each group session will only last around 30 minutes, but there will be plenty more going on throughout the day to keep you occupied!
Opportunity for a free brewery tour throughout the day!
- Two brewery tours will be taking place throughout the day. Please note accessibility info below if you have reduced mobility, as unfortunately our brewery tour has very limited accessibility.
TIMINGS:
- We are expecting the brew day to start at 7:45am (prompt!) and finish around 3pm
- You’re more than welcome to get food from the Vat and Fiddle throughout the brew day, or to hang around after.
- Please note: if you’re keen to get involved with a certain aspect of the brewing process, we recommend getting here bright and early to secure your desired place!

ACCESSABILITY INFO:
- The Vat and Fiddle and Old Cold Store are on ground level, and accessible by ramp where there are steps (i.e. to get into the back pub garden). For more detail, please see here.
- There is an accessible toilet which is also gender neutral.
- Sadly, the brewery is not suitable for wheelchair access or people with significantly reduced mobility. Unfortunately that means participation in the brew processes and the brewery tour will not be available in this case. However, there’s plenty going on in the OCS and involvement in our IWD brew day isn’t limited to participation in the main brewery!
- About the brewery:
- There are steps and stairs between all levels
- Participation with the hop addition will require climbing a ladder
- Floor surfaces may be wet and slippery
- In some places there are pipes which run across the ground
- Some spaces are narrow to move through

GETTING HERE:
- We’ll be based in the Old Cold Store, between the brewery and the Vat and Fiddle (on Queensbridge Rd, NG2 1NB)
- We recommend walking, biking, or catching public transport as far as possible
- We are located just a stone’s throw from the Train Station so transport links are usually very good
- If you are coming by car, we recommend parking at one of the following car parks: NCP Maid Marian Way / Broad Marsh Car Park / Nottingham Station Car Park
