A 1930′s rebuild of a Victorian ‘local’, and known as the Grove for most of its life, a succession of failed re-brandings led to its eventual closing by its owners.

Resurrected as a real ale house, The Tom Hoskins, in 1992, and subsequently rechristened as The Vat & Fiddle by news owners Castle Rock in 1997, the pub gained a reputation as a proper drinkers pub. A three minute stroll from the railway station, and popular with football and cricket fans.Adjacent to Castle Rock Brewery and thus dubbed the ‘brewery tap’.

Manager:- Ed Sullivan

Sadly we have to report that our famous and much loved pub cat “KIPR” sadly passed away on Friday 15th February and she will be very sadly missed by all staff and customers past and present. We would like to thank the many regulars (too many to mention) that have over the years pampered her with treats and love. There was a lovely send off yesterday and she was buried in her favourite spot next to the pub, again Thank you all for your support in this a sad time.

Our Brewery Visitors Centre is available as a day or evening meeting room for up to 20 people. Food and refreshments can be arranged. Ring 0115 9850611 for bookings and further details. CURRY AND BEER WEBSITE REVIEW
