Highlighting the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust's largest nature reserve, Idle Valley is available until the end of May, and is quickly selling out!

Castle Rock Brewery has re-launched Idle Valley Reserve, a single hopped IPA brewed with a new UK hop variety Olicana. Olicana is part of Charles Faram’s hop development programme and imparts juicy but subtle tropical fruit notes. The beer is balanced but refreshing with a good bitterness.

The beer, first brewed last year, was the first in a range of beers designed to highlight the diversity of the Wildlife Trust’s nature reserves and to promote some of its most important sites across the county. The beers are the latest phase of a successful partnership between Castle Rock Brewery and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust which stretches back to 2001 and the creation of the ‘Natural Selection’ – a range of beers highlighting individual species of plant and animal. The partnership has helped generate in excess of £125,000 in direct and match funding for Wildlife Trust projects across Nottinghamshire.

The Idle Valley Nature Reserve is by far the largest site cared for by the charity covering over 450 hectares – the size of around 600 football pitches. The site is home to a wide range of wildlife and is especially known for its populations of over-wintering ducks and other water birds.

On a recent visit to the Reserve Head of Communications Erin McDaid took Lewis Townsend of Castle Rock Brewery to visit one of the more remote parts of the reserve which is excellent for birdwatching.
Speaking about the visit Mr McDaid said: “It was great to show Lewis around the reserve. It so huge you could spend a whole day walking around and still not see it all, but it was good to see some of the birdlife including gadwall, coot and good numbers of lapwing.
The reserve is a real haven for wildlife and the support of Castle Rock Brewery in raising awareness of our key reserves and generating funds to help us care for them is really important to us. Mr McDaid continued. “We hope that the Idle Valley Reserve beer from Castle Rock Brewery will help raise the profile of the site and we hope that local pubs will choose to stock it and others in the series.”
