What an amazing way to wrap up a memorable, busy year! The annual awards are held by Visit Nottinghamshire to celebrate our county and all it has to offer visitors. We were chuffed to receive the call informing us that we had been shortlisted for not one but two awards.
We certainly didn’t expect to walk away with a double win, especially when shortlisted against some incredible competition, but the odds were ever in our favour! Canalhouse, the city’s beloved canalside watering hole, was crowned Tourism Pub of the Year. A few minutes later, Castle Rock Brewery took home the Sustainable Tourism award.
For the former, it was the unique charm of the premises and the craft beer offering that made the Canalhouse stand out from the crowd. And for the latter, it was an older (sob) company implementing progressive systems and processes to minimise our environmental impact.
We are so proud to be recognised as part of the tourism industry…and to think all this time our focus was on you locals! As the years pass, and as things look politically unsteady, it’s humbling to know that what we do also helps boost the local tourism trade.
We don’t shout too much about our pubs, because we hope they speak for themselves. We also don’t shout too much about our sustainability efforts. After all, we think it’s our responsibility to take the actions we have taken, and to always push forward for ways to improve.
But on the odd occasion, it’s wonderful to have those efforts recognised, and most importantly the efforts of our teams. They make us the best we can be. Congratulations to Wayne and the team at the Canalhouse, and to Pete McWilliam, our Green King.
And a massive cheers to you all. Thanks for your continued support, for getting behind us in all we do, and for making it all worth it!
