If you’ve dropped by the Embankment in recent weeks, or picked up the latest copy of the Castle Rock Quarterly, you’ll know the stunning site has undergone significant refurbishments and is nearing completion.

Brought under Castle Rock operations in June and owned by the Beer Consortium, we were eager to start work on the former Boots Social Club right away. Read on to find out what we’ve been up to for the past four months
Behind the scenes all sorts of changes have taken place, including a new cellar to keep your beer in tip top condition. Currently, the creation of a shiny new kitchen is well underway, which will enable us to serve food on all three floors of the building. The food offering is looking pretty spectacular, with hearty traditional pub dishes alongside specials and themed menus.
Upstairs the stunning Lord Trent Room is complete and ready to hire for events, parties and business meetings, as is Jesse Boot’s office; a beautiful intimate space with stained glass windows and a view over the main bar of the site.

On the ground floor of the Embankment, a substantial re-shuffle has taken place: the former snooker hall has become the Arkwright Room, providing drinking and dining facilities. The room celebrates local history, with a black and white photograph of early 1900s Arkwright Street spanning an entire wall of the room. The final touches are being made as we write this, so before long you’ll be able to sit back and relax with a pint.
Even before the papers were signed, we knew that such a historical site needed to be treated with respect and sensitivity. The front of the building housed the Boots Store 2, with glass windows spanning the shopfront. This is where the most dramatic changes have taken place, with the windows going back in to open up the building.

the Dispensary bar takes shape

The former Boots Store 2 becomes the  Dispensary Craft Beer and Real Ale bar

As we write this, work on the exterior continues. The former Boots Store 2 will be called the Dispensary; a craft and real ale bar serving cask and keg beers in an intimate room with a rich history. Obviously our favourite part so far has been shopping for antiques…
For now, the main bar and the conservatory remain untouched.

We were hoping to keep the Embankment open during all refurbishments, but have now made the decision to close the doors for the next couple of weeks. The Embankment is due to re-open as an official Castle Rock pub in early November. We’ll keep you updated!
