Petra Wetzel, the Germany-born Glasgow-based brewer of European artisan lagers and wheat beers has wowed world beer fans at the Canalhouse in her first visit to Nottingham.

In her ‘meet the brewer’ session, drinkers, staff and visitors to the SIBA keg fest met the owner of WEST before sampling her finest keg beers.

Petra fell in love with the Canalhouse and its patrons. “This place is beautiful,” she said. “In some ways it’s really quite different with the narrow boats, all the timber and the brick; and yet it has a welcoming spirit equal to the very best German beer halls.”

Petra set up WEST in 2006 to create lagers and wheat beers with a ‘Glaswegian Heart and German Head’. Her beers are among 180 other world beers available in bottles and on draught at the Canalhouse.
